Ruach (רוּחַ) is a Hebrew word that has multiple meanings, including "wind", "breath", "spirit", "life", and "essence". It is often used in scripture to refer to God's breath, or "Spirit of God". For example, in Genesis 1:2, it is used to describe "a wind from God sweeping over the water". In Isaiah 11:2, God uses the phrase "Ruach Yahweh" to promise that the Messiah will be empowered by the Holy Spirit. 
Ruach can also refer to a person's emotional, intellectual, and volitional life.
